Step 1: Check Global Market Cues (8:00 AM)
Before looking at Indian markets, check overnight global cues: US markets (Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq close), Asian markets (SGX Nifty, Nikkei, Hang Seng pre-open), Crude oil and gold prices, Dollar Index (DXY). This gives you context for how Indian markets might open. SGX Nifty is the best predictor of Nifty’s opening direction.
Step 2: Review Key News and Events (8:10 AM)
Scan financial news for market-moving events: RBI announcements, corporate earnings, government policy changes, global events. Use Moneycontrol, Economic Times, or Bloomberg Quint. Don’t form opinions — just note events that could create volatility in your watchlist stocks.
Step 3: Mark Key Levels on Your Charts (8:20 AM)
Open your trading platform and mark: previous day’s high, low, and close. Key support and resistance levels from daily charts. Any overnight gaps. VWAP from the previous session. These levels are where the most significant price action will occur today.
Step 4: Prepare Your Watchlist (8:30 AM)
Narrow down to 3-5 stocks maximum for the day. Include: stocks at key technical levels, stocks with overnight news/catalysts, F&O stocks with unusual OI changes. Having fewer names means better focus and execution.

Step 5: Define Your Trading Plan (8:40 AM)
For each stock on your watchlist, write down: 1) Direction bias (bullish/bearish/neutral). 2) Specific entry conditions. 3) Stop loss level. 4) Target(s). 5) Position size. If you can’t clearly define all five, that stock shouldn’t be traded today.
Steps 6 & 7: Mental Prep and System Check (8:50-9:10 AM)
Step 6: Mental preparation. Take 5-10 minutes for meditation or deep breathing. Remind yourself of your rules. Accept that some trades will be losers. Step 7: System check. Ensure your internet is stable, broker platform is running, charting software is up, and you have backup connectivity. The market opens in 5 minutes — you’re ready.
